Today Hersheypark announced their new thrill ride for 2017. As most people have guessed, it was confirmed to be a drop tower attraction. However, it is more unique than the typical S&S complex.
The attraction contains three towers, but all are different. All have different heights and features. The Kisses Tower is the smallest. It holds 12 riders and reaches a height of 80 feet, all while running a "Double Shot" cycle. Reese's Tower takes 16 passengers 131 feet high, also running that program.
The star attraction is Hershey's Tower. At 189 feet, it is slightly taller than the traditional S&S model. Also, it includes one of the new rotating cars that the company displayed at IAAPA. The ride can hold 20 people at once, and includes a combo program of "Space Shot" and "Turbo Drop". It will be the first tower in the world to do this, making it a thrilling and much needed attraction.
Hershey was one of the few major parks in the world not to have a tower ride. This definitely fills the void, and adds another thrill to the park's offerings. The three sizes of towers make it more appealing to those not ready for the 189 foot one. Riders must be over 48" tall to ride.
To make room for this addition, Flying Falcon will be removed, and the Frog Hopper and Red Baron rides will take its place. While this addition is more of a sideways move rather than a true addition, the towers will be much more thrilling and popular than the old Condor model. In the long run, it should save the park some money in maintenance as well.
A Chick-Fil-A will also be added to the park for 2017. This will be the chain's first appearance in the park, and one of the many branded restaurants that they offer. The eatery will include indoor air-conditioned seating, as well as an outdoor patio.
Altogether, the drop tower will be a hit for the park. It may not be the most spectacular addition ever, but a nice supplementary one after an off-year this season.
